What is MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) ?

UFC octagon MMA

MMA, short for Mixed Martial Arts, is a sport that combines the most effective techniques from various combat disciplines around the world. Unlike traditional martial arts that focus on a single style, MMA fighters are well-versed in a wide range of skills, incorporating elements from boxing, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and other disciplines. MMA is great for anyone who wants to develop their fighting skills, improve their confidence and be able to defend themselves.

MMA program content

This program is composed of four pillars of fighting.

1. Striking or standup fighting

Striking is a core pillar of our program. You’ll learn to fight effectively on your feet (footwork, distance, and timing) using principles from Muay Thai and kickboxing. We train punches, elbows, knees, and shin-based kicks, plus the defenses and counters that keep you safe.

2. Wrestling

MMA involves taking someone down to the ground, it mixed the art of wrestling to stop and neutralize a striker. You will learn, takedowns and grappling to make your opponent helpless once you get a hold of him

3. GroundWork

Another pillar is Ground work. Ground work involves your ability to neutralize someone on the ground whether by choking them or submitting them with an arm or leg. This also draws on from the art of Jiu-jitsu a Japanese martial arts that is lethal in close range fighting

4. Mixing It all

The last pillar of MMA is the mix, your ability to transition is what makes you a good mma fighter. The transition is from striking to takedown then ground and pound makes you a formidable fighter.
